The blockchain project ZetaChain is set for a radical transformation after its community voted overwhelmingly—by 99.4%—to permanently shut down its Layer 1 infrastructure. With a 58% participation rate, this historic vote signals the end of the network’s original ambition, launched in 2024 to enable interoperability across various ecosystems. Rather than disappearing, the ZETA token will migrate to the Solana blockchain, a paradigm shift driven by the developers' desire to refocus their efforts on Anuma, a private solution centered on artificial intelligence.
This strategic decision is fueled by two major challenges: operational burden and security. Maintaining a chain built on the Cosmos SDK requires heavy technical maintenance and constant coordination between validators to mitigate vulnerabilities—a constraint that became too cumbersome following recent exploits affecting other chains within the Cosmos ecosystem. By transitioning to Solana, the team aims to leverage the robustness of an established infrastructure to deploy Anuma more effectively, which intends to provide an application layer dedicated to AI, backed by a base of over 300,000 active users.
The transition process involves a 1:1 conversion, swapping original ZETA tokens for new SPL-format tokens on Solana, ensuring no dilution for holders. This operation will strictly apply to assets stored on ZetaChain, effectively excluding tokens already held on Ethereum or BNB Chain. While the precise schedule is still to be determined, the final shutdown will require a second governance vote to validate the final snapshot. Staking remains operational in the interim, pending the implementation of new reward mechanisms native to the host ecosystem.
Counter to the usual expectations during such a restructuring, the market has reacted with enthusiasm. The price of ZETA saw a spectacular 67% increase over 24 hours following the announcement, reflecting strong investor confidence in this pivot toward artificial intelligence. Although its current valuation remains well below the all-time highs seen in early 2024, this surge underscores the perceived relevance of integrating into the Solana ecosystem, which is now viewed as the preferred foundation for the project's future application-driven innovations.
