The French digital asset ecosystem has reached a pivotal milestone with the inaugural (Cyber) Security Forum, a joint initiative by the Ligue pour la Sécurité du Web3 (LSW3) and the ADAN. This event marks a collective awakening to the proliferation and increasing professionalization of threats. The risk landscape now extends far beyond the digital realm: alongside phishing attacks and data breaches affecting platforms, there is a rising trend of physical assaults directly targeting cryptocurrency holders and industry executives.

The observations shared during the panel discussions highlighted the urgency of the situation. Phishing remains the primary threat, exacerbated by information leaks that compromise user security. At the same time, recent security incidents impacting several Digital Asset Service Providers (DASP) have exposed the systemic vulnerability of current infrastructures. These flaws not only endanger assets but also threaten the broader trust essential for the long-term growth of the French crypto market.

The discussions also emphasized the pivotal role of judicial authorities and Tracfin. One figure is particularly striking: although millions of complaints are filed annually in France, fewer than 10% lead to the opening of a formal judicial investigation. Faced with this complexity, magistrates are calling for hybrid expertise that bridges financial crime and cybercrime. The scarcity of specialized technical professionals capable of analyzing on-chain flows remains a major hurdle in effectively processing complex criminal cases involving crypto-assets.

The long-term success of this strategy now hinges on enhanced public-private cooperation. While authorities have an increasing need for tracking and technical analysis, the operational framework remains to be clarified. The lack of standardization in investigation reports provided by private players limits their admissibility in court. The bridge-building initiated by the ADAN and the LSW3 is therefore aimed at establishing a necessary normative dialogue to transform these analytical tools into legal levers that investigators can effectively utilize.
