This mechanism seeks to institutionalize the separation between validators and block builders, thereby optimizing network efficiency while moderating transaction fees for end users.

However, the testing phase on Sepolia raises legitimate operational concerns within the developer community. Unlike the mainnet, where every block auction requires real capital, the cost-free nature of testnet tokens opens the door to low-cost malicious behavior. Experts fear that attackers may exploit multiple identities to flood auctions with unrealistic bids without ever delivering the promised blocks. Such a maneuver could paralyze the test by producing empty blocks, thereby preventing a reliable assessment of Glamsterdam’s performance under real-world conditions.

Faced with these risks, technical teams are working under increased pressure with compressed timelines. The release of compatible software is expected by September 29th, leaving a safety window of only seven days before the fork—half the time typically allowed for such procedures. While the Sepolia network offers greater flexibility for corrective measures, the success of this trial run remains decisive for the subsequent schedule. A failure or paralysis during this exercise could jeopardize the current trajectory, which aims for a mainnet activation in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Despite these hurdles, the outlook remains encouraging, bolstered by promising results from private simulations where the transition occurred without affecting network finality. The next phase of operations involves a second test stage on the Hoodi network toward the end of October, contingent upon conclusive results from the first deployment.
