The initiative is divided into two distinct tiers: a "Blue" version, focused on code analysis and suspicious activity detection for the general public, and a "Red" version, reserved for hand-picked organizations for highly sensitive operations. OpenAI is prioritizing critical infrastructure such as public water utilities, the power grid, regional banking institutions, and open source project contributors. By enabling developers to strengthen their systems, the organization hopes to counter the technological advantage currently enjoyed by cybercriminals, whose impact was highlighted by the massive theft of over $2 billion in cryptocurrencies recorded during the first half of 2025.

Although blockchain ecosystem players are not explicitly listed among the priority beneficiaries, the crypto industry remains on the front lines of these risks. The immutability and transparency of on-chain code, combined with massive financial stakes, make decentralized protocols prime targets. While specialized firms are concerned by this omission, the possibility for open-source software maintainers to request access offers a potential entry point. Foundational projects such as Bitcoin Core or major Ethereum clients could theoretically leverage these tools to audit their architectures against AI-powered threats.
