Technical analysis in financial markets, and particularly within the cryptocurrency ecosystem, often relies on tools inherited from ancient mathematics. Among them, Fibonacci retracements have established themselves as an essential method for anticipating trend reversals. Derived from a numerical sequence where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones, these ratios—including the famous golden ratio at 0.618—allow price movements to be segmented into strategic levels. Rather than mere mystical predictions, these thresholds act as visual benchmarks shared by a vast community of investors, thus transforming theoretical calculations into effective support or resistance zones.

The functionality of this indicator is relatively straightforward: traders measure the amplitude of a major move to identify corrective levels, located notably at 38.2%, 50%, and 61.8%. The latter, nicknamed the "golden pocket", often crystallizes market expectations. The effectiveness of this tool does not stem from an immutable physical law, but from a self-fulfilling dynamic: by being observed by millions of participants who place their buy or sell orders nearby, these levels become natural gathering points where supply and demand balance through collective convention.

A striking example illustrates this reality: during the 2022 bear cycle, Bitcoin plummeted to a low of around $15,479. By applying Fibonacci retracements to this cycle, the 61.8% level identified a major selling zone around $48,500. In a striking move, during the historic validation of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, the price stalled precisely in this area, peaking at $49,000 before undergoing a sharp technical correction. Although fundamental news served as a catalyst, the technical threshold was already acting as an obvious psychological barrier for profit-takers.

For the retail investor, however, the use of retracements should never be isolated. The method gains relevance when combined with other technical indicators, such as moving averages, trading volumes, or historical support zones. This concept of confluence is the true pillar of a robust strategy: a Fibonacci zone is only relevant if it is confirmed by other chart signals. Ultimately, this tool is not a crystal ball, but a psychological measurement instrument that captures the crowd's intentions and accurately identifies decision zones in a volatile market.
