Strategy has recently ramped up its financial management strategy by allocating $176.3 million to repurchase 1.81 million of its preferred shares (STRC). This move reflects a clear ambition to bolster the company's capital structure, as the program dedicated to buying back these digital credit securities has been officially doubled from $1 billion to $2 billion. Meanwhile, the group maintains a conservative stance on its cryptocurrency holdings: no bitcoin purchase or sale transactions were recorded over the past week, thereby preserving a massive reserve of 845,050 BTC.
This reserve, valued at approximately $66.1 billion, represents a significant portion—over 4%—of the total Bitcoin supply. Despite active treasury management, leadership is facing questions regarding certain past trade-offs. CEO Phong Le was forced to justify operations carried out over the summer, which were marked by the sale of 7,000 bitcoins followed by a repurchase at a higher unit price. While this maneuver may have been perceived as a missed opportunity, management defends a broader strategy aimed at cleaning up the balance sheet by bringing net debt to zero and consolidating substantial liquidity to optimize future fundraising.
The core objective behind the STRC share buyback lies in stock valuation. By keeping the share price close to its $100 par value, the company ensures it can issue new securities to finance growth without having to liquidate its digital assets. This financial mechanism is crucial to supporting the group's long-term holding model. To date, the STRC stock price has shown signs of resilience, recovering significantly from its recent lows, which temporarily validates the effectiveness of this buyback effort.
Beyond pure financial management, the firm is locked in an institutional battle against index provider MSCI. The group is firmly contesting a proposal to exclude certain "non-operational" companies, labeling the move as discriminatory. An unfavorable outcome in the final decision expected on October 16 could force index funds to adjust their portfolios. While Strategy remains the world's leading corporate holder of bitcoin, the performance of its shares and the stability of its access to capital remain the two pillars that will dictate its market trajectory in the coming months.
