Tether and Fasanara Capital launch a private credit fund

Despite ongoing challenges in major jurisdictions like the U.S. and the European Union, Tether, the undisputed leader in the stablecoin market, is continuing its expansion into emerging markets while now taking on the global private credit sector.

The company, led by Paolo Ardoino, has just announced a strategic partnership with the British asset manager Fasanara Capital—specializing in private credit and fintech financing solutions—to launch an "evergreen private credit vehicle" dubbed "StableFund."

This launch comes at a time when the global private credit market has reached approximately $3 trillion and is projected to hit $5 trillion by 2029, driven by increasing demand for alternative funding sources and institutional investor appetite for real-economy credit opportunities.

To kick off this venture, Tether and Fasanara Capital have announced an initial co-investment of $400 million. According to the official press release, the goal is to "raise up to $3 billion in capital from third-party institutional investors."

"Channeling institutional capital to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)"

With this project, Tether remains consistent with its development strategy focused on markets with failing monetary systems or those excluded from traditional banking. This new private credit fund is intended primarily to "channel institutional capital toward small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) facing a global financing gap estimated at $5.7 trillion."

Fasanara will act as the investment manager, deploying capital through its global network of fintech lenders as part of asset-backed short-term credit strategies. Tether will co-sponsor the fund and serve as an originator and advisor, identifying USDT-linked financing opportunities and providing the stablecoin settlement infrastructure.

📰 The euro stablecoin from the Qivalis banking consortium will be deployed on Ethereum

As a result, the USDT stablecoin will be integrated into lending flows for SMEs and consumers on fintech platforms operating in over 60 countries. This will allow Tether to "extend its crypto-asset infrastructure beyond trading and payments, integrating it into real-economy financial systems that require fast, global, and fluid capital movement."

However, the move remains a risky bet in a private credit market currently facing significant headwinds, primarily due to rising default rates over the past year. Nevertheless, it may help support the recent growth resurgence of USDT after several months of decline.
